Meet our Doctors
Dr. Charles Lekic, DDM (Hons), MSc, PhD, FRCD(C)
Dr. Charles Lekic is the Head of Pediatric Dentistry at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Manitoba. He teaches pediatric dentistry and is the recipient of major national and international teaching awards for excellence in dental education. At the same time his research work on cell transplantation is internationally recognized and supported by provincial and federal grants.
For over 20 years, Dr. Lekic has successfully practiced pediatric dentistry in Europe and in North America. He believes that the essential role of a pediatric dentist is to increase the awareness in a child-patient for the lifetime care of his/her teeth and to build the relationship between the child-patient, parent, and the dental team.
Dr. Chris Yue, BSc, DMD, MSc, FRCD(C)
Dr. Yue was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, where he completed his undergraduate dental training at the University of Manitoba. After 4 fulfilling years of practicing general dentistry in the private practice setting, Dr. Yue moved to Minnesota to focus his dental career on treating children. He attended the University of Minnesota obtaining a certificate of pediatric dentistry. During his time there he was able to earn his Masters of Science degree for his research on curing characteristics of dental sealant. This research was later published in the May 2009 issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association.
Dr. Yue is a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and Board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He also spends his time teaching as an adjunct professor at the University of Manitoba as well as participates in volunteer opportunities at various children’s events in the city. Dr. Yue is also a loving husband and is kept adequately busy caring for his three young children.
Dr. Milos Lekic, BSc (Dent), DMD, MSc, FRCD(C)
Dr. Milos Lekic completed his dental and orthodontic education in Winnipeg at the University of Manitoba. As both a clinical practitioner and an educator, he enjoys being exposed to both aspects of the vibrant and ever changing field of orthodontics.
Dr. Lekic has experience in all aspects of orthodontic care. His interests are in the field of biomechanics. Because of this he is employing self ligating brackets and clear aligners.
He enjoys spending time with his wife Erin and son Luka, listening to music, wakeboarding and writing in his spare time.
Dr. Christina Chan
Dr. Chan completed her Bachelor of Medical Science degree (4-year) and Dental degree at the University of Western Ontario. Following her graduation from dental school, Dr. Chan completed a one-year General Residency program at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. She spent the next 2 years working with patients with special health care needs in the Winnipeg hospital and had a very fulfilling private practice in general dentistry.
Seeing how children with positive attitudes towards oral health lead happier and healthier lives, Dr. Chan decided to pursue a 3-years post-graduate training in Pediatric Dentistry to learn how she can provide the best care to children. She also earned her degree in Masters of Dentistry in the process. She is currently a fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and, as well as, the Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Chan is passionately committed in helping children and their parents achieve good oral health in a fun and positive manner. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, painting, and travelling. Dr. Chan is conversationally fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese and is currently trying to learn French.
Dr. Fareea Surtie
Dr. Fareea Surtie completed her 4-year Bachelor of Science in Physiology, with distinction. She then went on to complete her dental training at the University of Saskatchewan, College of Dentistry, where she graduated in 2013. Upon graduating, Fareea was interested in rural outreach and community dentistry and completed a locum in Hay River, North West Territories and then an associateship in Terrace, Northern British Columbia.
While in Terrace she started a dental study club, facilitating various speakers and dental specialists to present to local dentists. Since moving back home to Regina, Fareea is now an associate professor at the University of Saskatchewan, College of Dentistry, as well as an active member of the Regina Dental Society and the College of Dental Surgeons of Saskatchewan.
Fareea enjoys volunteering with Kindness in Action (KIA), a Canadian based international volunteer organization, which aims to provide dental care to underserviced communities across the globe. Her first volunteer trip in 2015 was to provide oral health care and rehabilitation to local communities in Jalapa, Guatemala. She looks forward to her next trip to Peru in 2016, and hopefully many more in years to come.
In her spare time, Fareea enjoys shadow boxing, salsa dancing, yoga, reading and travelling. She is fluent in conversational Afrikaans and is currently trying to learn Spanish.
